Generally speaking, roasted coffee doesn’t expire. That being said, whole bean coffee can stale significantly within 4 weeks, losing much of its aromatic and flavour characteristics. We recommend consuming whole bean coffee within 2 to 3 weeks of the roast date.
Ground coffee stales much more quickly than whole beans and can lose a significant amount of aromatic/taste qualities in a matter of minutes or hours. It’s for this reason we recommend not buying pre-ground coffee if possible.
Once coffee stales, much of the unique characteristics of origin are lost and what is left is a generic, roasty coffee taste.
